How Many Squares are there in London?
Not a trick question I promise! There are literally squares throughout London, originally created to enhance the Residential developments that were springing up in London in the 16th and 17th Centuries. The palatial town houses that were home to the wealthy elite of the period have now almost all been converted into commercial office space or have been replaced all together, but the squares still remain, tranquil green spaces in London that can be a world away from the hustle and bustle of London’s main thoroughfares.
London boasts eight stunning Royal Parks, around 110 square kilometres of parkland and gardens with over six million trees and although this statistic covers London as a whole, you only have to look at a map of Central London to see how many ‘green squares’ there are. There really are numerous places to get away from the maddening crowd even in one of the world’s busiest capital cities!
