The Warrington Annual Property Review took place last week and, despite the continued economic doom and gloom, reports revealed that commercial office space interest in Warrington remains steady.

Sallie Maskrey of Portal Business Centres Ltd was among those at the well-attended review event. I asked Sallie to tell me a bit about what she had been able to take away from the day and whether the data had revealed many positives about the state of Warrington’s current market.

Sallie commented: “The Warrington Property Review has been running for 14 years and during that time Warrington has remained resilient to the worst effects of the economic downturns with 2011 being no exception.

Warrington is ranked in the top 8 locations for both earnings and people in employment  and  moved up to 7th in terms of its employment rate. It was 8th in terms of high earnings. It also has the 7th highest proportion of private sector employment, one of the factors that have helped insulate Warrington from the public sector spending cuts.”

Figures from the Warrington Annual Property Review, prepared by property agency BE Group, show that office space take up in the town during 2011 was twice that of 2010. The final take up figure for last year was 17,500 sq metres, which, although well below the 10 year average, has revealed a positive trend during tough economic times. Sallie concluded: “Warrington as a location continues to be popular with businesses as has been reflected by the property review.”

  1. It is figures like these that really underline the need for the government to scrap the empty property rates tax. Warrington, like so many of the country’s major towns and cities, just has too much empty space in a market where businesses remain tentative about relocation costs and its the landlords which are suffering for it.
