Last year MWB’s business centre on Fleet Street appeared as one of our featured offices. The centre has a great ‘claim to fame’ having been used in the shooting of the James Bond film, Diamonds are Forever. There cannot be many business centre teams across the UK that hold such fantastic bragging rights as this and even fewer who can claim such film set stardom as the staff at 23 Melville Street in Edinburgh, whose centre has featured in both British and Bollywood movies.
A traditional Georgian building, 23 Melville Street was bought in 2007 by Scottish property developer Brian Cormack. Situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s West End, the building held an ideal business location and Brian had big plans to 
refurbish the property to create modern, boutique office space. However, not long after acquiring the building, Brian decided to put renovations on hold when he was approached by film makers searching for set locations for the movie New Town Killers.
Starring Dougray Scott and Alistair McKenzie, New Town Killers tells the grisly story of two private bankers who embark on a macabre cat and mouse game with a down-and-out teenager living on a housing estate in Edinburgh’s outskirts. Brian allowed the property to be used for filming and, shortly after, found himself on set with director Richard Jobson.
After featuring in New Town Killers, 23 Meville Street was ear-marked by the film industry for a second time when Indian film makers decided to bring Bollywood to the Scottish capital. Building works were
delayed once again and the property was featured in the Bollywood classic, The Season of Love.
Following a double whammy of international movie stardom, renovations could finally begin at Melville Street. Hi-tech, contemporary offices were created and the business centre officially opened for business during June 2011 following a ~500,000 redevelopment.
Fully kitted out with the latest in telecom and IT technology, the office suites have been hailed as bringing a new generation of office accommodation to Edinburgh.
