But with attention spans low and social media creating an idealistic world where becoming an influencer or \u2018TikTok famous\u2019 is the ultimate life goal, how does this work ethic translate into office life?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Gen Z are the first fully digital generation, many young people are continuously consuming content which subconsciously shapes their ideologies and outlook on life. Gen Z have shown a disengagement to the typical 9 to 5 working life, taking to TikTok to create videos expressing their desire to live an easy life. \u201cI don\u2019t want to be a girlboss, I don\u2019t want to hustle,\u201d has become a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@jessicarosepnw\/video\/7077581929037516074?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1\">trending<\/a> audio highlighting just how turned off from the \u2018hustle culture\u2019 Gen Z truly are. Millennials on the other hand have attained the reputation as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/think\/opinion\/millennial-burnout-real-it-touches-serious-nerve-critics-here-s-ncna974506\">burnt out generation<\/a>, struggling with social, technological and economic pressures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gen Z are breaking down this barrier, demanding better working conditions from mental health support to inspirational leadership. With reports of mental health conditions increasing in university students by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucas.com\/file\/513961\/download?token=wAaKRniC\">450%<\/a> in less than a decade, Gen Z are adamant not to continue on with these stress levels throughout their working lives.\u00a0That\u2019s not to say all Gen Zers aren\u2019t interested in working, they\u2019re simply not interested in burnout, plus there\u2019s a high expectation from the workplace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/W103-Great-Resignation-topline.pdf\">37%<\/a> of young professionals under 30 say they voluntarily left a job in 2021. The younger generation simply aren\u2019t as willing as Millennials or Baby Boomers to sacrifice happiness or job satisfaction. And why should they? Gen Z craves value within the workplace and there\u2019s a strong desire to feel fulfilled, with only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jackkelly\/2021\/11\/15\/which-generation-is-the-happiest-at-work\/?sh=2a954f71114b\">41% of Gen Z finding meaning and purpose<\/a> in their work lives.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What values are important to Gen Z?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Flexibility is key<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As much as Gen Z wants to return to the office, this doesn\u2019t mean full time. The pandemic has drastically changed the way all companies work. People expect a hybrid working policy nowadays.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Make your company values clear and stick to them<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Gen Z are incredibly ignited by current events and therefore want to work for companies that mirror their same morals and values. Don\u2019t just talk about these values by sharing them on a company website; Gen Z are more interested in physical action being taken and a commitment to these values.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether it\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easyoffices.com\/blog\/business-advice-and-news\/birmingham-offices-to-benefit-from-regeneration-plans\">stand against climate change through sustainable office<\/a> design or a commitment to ensuring their staff have the mental health support they need, make your company values clear and more importantly, demonstrate it, don\u2019t just talk about it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Provide opportunities for growth and development<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned, Gen Z cares a lot about value. Providing long term goals and development plans can help with giving your employees reassurance that they are valued, important and worthy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Continue to show how valued they are&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Gen Z aren\u2019t the most driven by salary. Instead, they <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/charter\/6149918\/generation-z-workers\/\">want to feel supported<\/a> and noticed in the workplace. It\u2019s important staff get the right training and support throughout their journey so they continue to feel valued.
