For some, the feeling has a name &#8211; the Sunday Scaries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.easyoffices.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Sunday-Scaries-Easy-Offices.png\" alt=\"A dictionary definition of the Sunday Scaries that says it is the feeling of anxiety that typically surges on a Sunday evening as the work week looms\" class=\"wp-image-16219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.easyoffices.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Sunday-Scaries-Easy-Offices.png 750w, https:\/\/www.easyoffices.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Sunday-Scaries-Easy-Offices-338x338.png 338w, https:\/\/www.easyoffices.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Sunday-Scaries-Easy-Offices-595x595.png 595w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the Sunday Scaries?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Also known as the Sunday Blues, the Sunday Scaries is a feeling of dread, nervousness and anxiety that typically surges on a Sunday evening as the work week looms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Government research just revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/every-mind-matters-campaign-urges-people-to-be-kind-to-their-mind\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">7 in 10<\/a> Brits experience the Sunday Scaries regularly, with work stress and to-do lists the primary triggers as the weekend concludes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Google searches for \u2018Sunday Scaries\u2019 increased by <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=2020-01-01%202022-10-11&amp;geo=GB&amp;q=sunday%20scaries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">100%<\/a> when we started going back into the office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Since the start of 2022:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Searches for \u2018office anxiety\u2019 have spiked by <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?geo=GB&amp;q=office%20anxiety\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">32%<\/a><\/li><li>Searches for \u2018Monday blues\u2019 are up <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=2020-01-01%202022-10-11&amp;geo=GB&amp;q=Monday%20blues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">31%<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the UK alone, more than 80,000 people ask questions about office anxiety a month, with common Google searches like \u2018how to deal with back-to-work anxiety\u2019 spiking throughout the month.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why are we anxious about working in person?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>A change in routine:<\/strong> Routines help us cope with change, and for the last few years, we\u2019ve been adjusting to the new cadence of working from home, and life has become somewhat predictable. Studies have shown that working from home can increase productivity and positively impact work-life balance, so naturally, the idea of another routine shift is stressful.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easyoffices.com\/blog\/work-environment\/how-to-create-a-workplace-that-prioritises-work-life-balance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">How to create a workplace that prioritises work-life balance<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Social anxiety:<\/strong> During the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, the World Health Organisation reported a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/02-03-2022-covid-19-pandemic-triggers-25-increase-in-prevalence-of-anxiety-and-depression-worldwide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">25% increase<\/a> in anxiety globally, which means more people are dealing with feelings of social nervousness than before. Today, <a href=\"https:\/\/patient.info\/mental-health\/anxiety\/social-anxiety-disorder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1 in every 10<\/a> people suffers from social anxiety.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Return-to-office exhaustion:<\/strong> At the end of last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tinypulse.com\/hubfs\/TINYCon%20SOEE%20Q3%202021%20Public.pptx.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">71%<\/a> of people globally working in person reported being emotionally exhausted. In comparison, 84% of people working in a hybrid setting said the same. It\u2019s normal to feel the same way about returning to the office, even if you\u2019ve been at the company for years. Give yourself time to adjust to the stressful new routine change, new ways of working, and interactions you\u2019ll be having.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Maintain some of your WFH habits:<\/strong> Environments can greatly impact our behaviour, and you may have developed some good habits working from home. Whether going for a walk at lunch or leaving your desk a few times a day to move around and give your eyes a break, try to retain as many of these habits as possible when you return to the office.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Break the ice:<\/strong> If you\u2019ve been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easyoffices.com\/blog\/work-environment\/avoid-checking-work-emails-on-holiday\">avoiding in-person meetings and social gatherings at work<\/a>, break the ice by planning to attend something in person, even if it\u2019s for a short time.
