Historically, Yokohama has been recognized for its sea port and its fame as an international metropolis. With the redevelopment of Minato Mirai, economy in the area around the station was revitalized and is still growing amidst its change. Large companies such as Nissan have recently relocated their headquarters to Yokohama. The ohama Eki Nishiguchi is a three minute walk from the West exit and is located among many large-scale buildings. Sotetsu KS Building where the centre is located, houses Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ Bank on the ground floor and is clearly visible from the station.
