About Hale (Manchester) Rail Station

Altrincham is a large town in Trafford, Manchester. It has a population of approximately 50,000 and became part of the larger Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council in 1974.

Situated on the A56, Altrincham is located conveniently for easy access in and out of Manchester. Altrincham has rail links providing convenient commutes to the City of Manchester rail station. 15 minutes away from Altrincham town centre is Manchester City Airport, accommodating over 19 million passengers per year. The Altrincham bus, train and tram Interchange all provide additional public transport links around the town. Altrincham inhabits many professional workers and is a very pleasant town. Due to its many transport links, it has become known widely as a commuter town, where many may now live in the area, but travel to work elsewhere.

Altrincham has seen a lot of investment in recent years, improving the area and raising its profile. The Stamford Quarter has some large retailers including Debenhams and H & M, a Barclays Bank as well a modern car park. The latest refurbishments have introduced a new hotel built to accommodate tourists in The Stamford Quarter area and a live jazz bar. Leisure facilities include a multi screen cinema, and a year round ice rink. Altrincham’s Ice Rink provides community skating and is the home ground of the Ice Hockey League team, Manchester Phoenix.

Since the 1920’s Altrincham has had a chartered market, which still runs today. Offering fresh healthy food and Antique Bric a Brac, the market is still thriving and is a key attraction to locals of the area. Altrincham celebrates its independent businesses and takes pride in the originality they bring to the town. Greenwood Street, The Downs and Oxford Road have many interesting shops and restaurants, providing a different variety of goods to those available from larger chain retailers.
