Commercial Office Space Empty Rates Campaign Gets Boris Johnson Support

The British Property Federation has continued to gain support for their campaign for the abolition of the government’s ever-unpopular empty rates tax this week having gained signatures from some 120 further politicians including London Major Boris Johnson.

 

The empty rates tax has created havoc in the property industry since its introduction earlier in the year and growing anger from landlords, agents and campaigners accumulated in an open letter to the prime minister last month.

 

And so the saga continues with announcements expected to be made by Gordon Brown regarding the rates row at this afternoon’s pre-budget report.  Property magazine Property Week has speculated that although there is a chance that the government will shift its position on the tax, following pressure but on by the BPF and politicians from mixed parties, there may be only a part-relief from the legislation for those in regeneration areas.
