Blog from a Serviced Office Tenant by Easy Offices.

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Each month we will be following 2 companies, both sharing their highs and lows and everyday business challenges, as they describe any issues or problems connected to their office any and the choices and solutions they come up with or are presented with.

The companies will remain anonymous as we want an insight into their office situation and not create a branding or P.R. exercise for them. Both are SME’s, in totally different industries where one company has decided to lease their own offices and the second is in a Serviced Office.

This is the post from the Company in a Serviced Office – they will be posting every month. We hope you enjoy the insight……………

Dear Readers.

Firstly may I apologise for not delivering a blog for the month of May. This can be mildly justifiable by the fact that I got married and that involves spending a great deal of time (and money!) ‘organising’ wedding stuff at the cost of neglecting other areas of life, such as earning a living and posting blogs when you are supposed to. I am happy to report that everything went like a dream and now it is down to business as usual.

Our fair ladies here at the serviced offices have been working hard as usual to look after the tenants in the building and help alleviate some of the stresses associated with running an office.

The most recent such instance is a focussed reminder to everyone to have all electrical appliances used in the offices to be P.A.T. tested for the purposes of health and safety. By the way, that stands for ‘Portable Appliance Testing’.

At the very least it’s a sensible idea to ensure that all electrical appliances used in your office meet the required standard and, for instance, that the fan you have just bought from a dubious looking heavily bearded ‘friend of a friend’ isn’t going to trip the electrical circuit breaker every five minutes….or worse. From the point of view of your insurance cover it’s a must and certainly with regard to your tenancy agreement it is absolutely essential. I am the first to admit that I personally would not have thought of organising PAT testing were it not for the gentle reminder made to all the tenants by our top girls Cagney and Lacey.

If you are thinking of having this done then please don’t hesitate. You need to find a qualified electrician and expect the ‘call out’ charge to form the main part of your cost with a nominal fee charged for testing ‘per item’. I am having all items in my office tested this afternoon and will let you know in my next blog how it went.

In a few past blogs I may have mentioned the sense of community that can prevail in a well-managed serviced office and it seems that there is nothing like a major sporting event to bring people together. In the past when I have worked in large companies there has always been some kind of sweepstake for major sporting events: mainly the Grand National and the World Cup. Cagney has therefore taken it upon herself once again to organise a sweepstake for the World Cup 2014.

World Cup fever is starting to take a hold with England’s first match now imminent. We have one tenant who will be displaying a flag of St George at his window and it won’t be ong before two people won’t be able to pass each-other on the stairs without some ‘World Cup’ small-talk taking place. The sweepstake means there is that extra bit of interest in how teams perform, at least if you have selected a team with a chance. If you have selected Honduras (no offence) then your expectations will be so low that your heart rate will barely notice.

Even so we are grateful for Cagney’s sweepstake. It is quite a clever thing to use something happening outside the building to influence in a positive way what goes on inside the building. Even those who may feel the need to moan about the World Cup in some way stir up some friendly banter in the office. In any event the working days ahead may just be that little bit more pleasant.

Let’s hope Roy Hodgson feels the same in a few days time!
