The main forms of transport within Nottingham are buses, trams, trains and cars, as well as East Midlands Airport which is only 40 minutes to an hour away in the car or via public transport. Plenty of Nottingham’s transport is available to use in the early hours of the morning, and some services continue to be available late into the night, meaning there is no excuse not to be able to get to the office! Nottingham by Air

Getting to East Midlands Airport from Nottingham is extremely easy. It takes between 40 minutes and an hour to drive there, and there are plenty of long and short stay parking facilities available when you get there. There are several bus routes that take you directly from Nottingham City Centre to East Midlands Parkway, the most popular being the Skylink which takes around 50 minutes and operates every 40-50 minutes. Alternatively you can get the train to East Midlands Parkway which only takes around half an hour from Nottingham train station.

Nottingham by Train

 

Nottingham has one main train station – Nottingham train station – which has recently had a multi-million pound refurbishment. The station is inside a stunning Edwardian building which dates back all the way to the 20th century. It has excellent connections to the city’s tram network and is within less than a minute’s walk of the cities main bus and coach station – Broadmarsh bus station. The station serves many key routes around the country with trains travelling to; London St Pancras, Cardiff, Lincoln, Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, Norwich and Birmingham. If you’re going to be travelling locally the Robin Hood Line is a really useful local rail service taking you from the city centre to local suburbs and towns like Worksop and Langwith.

Nottingham by Bus

 

Nottingham has the largest public bus network in the UK linking all the local areas to the city centre. The main providers of bus services in Nottingham are NCT and Barton Buses. Most buses run all day every day, with select buses running late services at the weekends. Various buses run from Nottingham train station to the city centre every few minutes and take you to and from Broadmarsh shopping centre, Hockley, Victoria Centre and Market Square. Just some of the buses running this route are the 5,6,7,8,9,10,11 and L1. There are various bus tickets you can purchase which enable you to make the most of the buses in Nottingham if you are using them a lot throughout the day. A city rider ticket enables you to use the city buses and trams on an unlimited basis all day. An EasyRider card is a good option if you’re in Nottingham for more than a weekend offering unlimited travel for a week, two weeks, a month or a year. If you’re going to be travelling in multiple directions in and around the city, the Kangaroo ticket is a great option offering you near enough unlimited travel on any tram, bus or local train in Nottingham.

Nottingham by Tram

 

Nottingham’s tram network was introduced in 2004 and enables visitors to use the park and ride facilities and avoid inner city parking charges. It is also an exceptionally quick way in and around the city. The tram services move from the city centre, through Lace Market to Hucknall and Phoenix Park which are based on the outskirts of the city centre. There are five different park and ride sites based along the tram route which is great if you’re looking to avoid city parking charges. The trams travel every few minutes and operate from early morning to late in the evening Monday to Saturday with reduced services on a Sunday. Within the next few years Nottingham’s tram system will extend considerably as new routes are currently under construction in Beeston, Chilwell, Clifton and Wilford although no completion date has been set.

Driving in and around Nottingham is really easy, with plenty of parking facilities and alternative routes available.
