Birmingham’s Aston Science Park provides 250,000 sq ft of office space for start up, SMEs and more recently large UK and international corporations. With a variety of commercial office space accommodation, the park is home to two Serviced Office business centres. Offering fully furnished, flexible lease space the centres can be found on Church Street and Faraday Wharf.
Internally the park has been managed by Dr Derek Harris, recognised by colleagues for his huge contributions to the park, since 1983. Now the park will be under the watch of a new Chief Executive Officer, John Cronin who reportedly commented: “Under Dr Harris’ leadership, the Science Park has made a tremendous contribution to the economy of Birmingham and I now look forward to being able to drive forward the next phase of the park’s exciting future.“
The park was set up 25 years ago and was aimed at providing commercial office space for start ups and SMEs. Now, boasting a massive 250,000 sq ft of office space, the park is also home to a number of large UK and international corporations. Neighbouring Aston University the park maintains an intellectual basis with industries from research, technology and knowledge-based areas.
The future of the park looks to be progressive under the new leadership of John Cronin. Alongside Birmingham City Council and Birmingham Heartlands Hospital there are plans for a massive expansion with the launch of a new “Medipark“. Council member Mike Whitby, Leader of Birmingham City Council and Chairman of Aston Science Park reportedly commented: “The science park has a tremendous future and I wish John every success. John’s vast experience stands him in good stead to accept this role and drive the organisation forward.“
