Office Space Centre in Portsmouth Gets New Centre Manager

Office Space in Portsmouth: A hi-tech business hub on the south coast has a new centre manager.  Regional technology parks operator Fasset has appointed Stephen Brownlie to generate new business and oversee the day-to-day running of the office space at Portsmouth Technopole.

He was headhunted after Fasset was awarded a contract last month (APRIL) by owner Portsmouth Technopole Ltd (PTL) to manage the facility, which has nearly 20,000 sq ft of flexible office space and is located by the M275 gateway entrance to the city.  Under the Fasset umbrella, Stephen aims to increase occupancy levels and forge stronger links with the local defence sector and the University of Portsmouth and other organisations.

Stephen, 31, a father of one from Drayton in Portsmouth, said: “We envisage the Technopole playing an even greater role in generating local jobs and economic vitality by attracting embryonic firms at the cutting edge of their fields.  For example, the university is a major knowledge-based organisation where companies spinning out of research and development will be looking at the Technopole as a good entry point into the private sector.  Another strength locally is the defence sector, which contributes nearly £700m to the local economy. The Technopole provides an excellent base for new defence spin-out companies.”

Stephen, who heads up a team of four, including receptionists and IT support, added: “Another priority will be to develop a campus-style feel for occupants, so they can benefit from pooling knowledge and best practice whilst being assured of top-level service from Fasset.”

Current tenants at the Portmouth offices include software development specialist AMT Data Technologies, remote control toys designer Bladez Toyz, marine technology firm Lxsea, and Servoca, providers of specialist outsourced solutions to police forces and local and national government.

PTL, which owns the office space building, selected Fasset because of the company’s proven track record in driving up occupancy rates at similar sites in the south and its strong links with local and regional networks.  For instance, Fasset transformed the fortunes of Langstone Technology Park near Portsmouth by making 700,000 sq ft of vacant research and development space pay its way; more than 3,700 people now work for 18 companies, with an occupancy level of nearly 100 per cent.

Chris Allington, Joint Managing Director, Fasset, said: “Stephen has an impressive track record in the office space sector and will play an influential role in making Portsmouth Technopole the first port-of-call for emerging hi-tech firms.”

The Technopole was the result of a collaboration between PTL and Portsmouth City Council and was opened in April 2002.  Stephen was previously the business development and venue manager for Quindell, a conference services specialist, establishing Quob Park, near Fareham in Hampshire, as a serviced office and conference facility.
