Office Rentals in the City of London Suffer and Sub-Lets Increase

Reading Time: 1

The number of companies taking office rentals in the City of London has reached a “new low” according the Financial Times.  The paper is this week claiming that figures show the take up of offices in the City has fallen to its lowest for more than 20 years.

There has also been a noticeable increase in the number of companies looking to sub-let their own space.  Easy Offices is now taking regular enquiries from businesses looking to advertise small spaces within their own offices to help subsidise their rents.

Easy Offices’ Website Marketer Sophie Kent commented: “We are getting more and more requests from companies wanting to advertise small spaces on the Easy Offices site in all areas of the UK with many in the City. I am dealing with maybe two or three calls a day from businesses wanting to sub-let anything from around the 2 work station mark up to around 12 work stations.”

With businesses increasingly feeling the pressure of the recession many have been forced to axe jobs and reduce office space in a bid to lower overheads.  For many, Serviced Offices are continuing to prove a great way of downsizing for the downturn offering an easy way of reducing office space without moving addresses.  Serviced Office clients can rest assured that they will pay only for the space which is being used and avoid the threat of desks sitting idle; particularly important at a time when predicting staff redundancy figures can prove difficult.

The FT also reported that while take up was down, rentals in the City are continuing to fall and that a rise in activity may be on the cards for upcoming months as occupiers see increased value for money.
