Each month we will be following 2 companies, both sharing their highs and lows and everyday business challenges, as they describe any issues or problems connected to their office any and the choices and solutions they come up with or are presented with.
The companies will remain anonymous as we want an insight into their office situation and not create a branding or P.R. exercise for them. Both are SME’s, in totally different industries where one company has decided to lease their own offices and the second is in a Serviced Office.

Welcome to the Christmas Edition of my monthly blog. As December approached we were all gripped by Christmas mania and nothing seems to escape it’s force: constant TV advertising, emails of Christmas lists, Christmas carols, Christmas do’s, Christmas shopping, ……and maybe one or two Christmas hangovers.
So it is no surprise that here at our serviced offices Christmas has also made its mark. Most tenants may not have the budget or space for anything ‘Christmassy’ but fear not. The Christmas tree and various decorations have been put up in reception, Christmas cards raising money for charitable causes have been made available and I even think the air freshener applied in the loos has a Christmas theme. Nice! There is no mistaking what time of year it is for anyone visiting the offices.
Our two heroines have also been busy organising a Christmas get together next week where all the tenants, but especially those with single or low staff numbers, can participate in a Christmas event and a few more mince pies can be added to the variety of waistlines inhabiting the four corners of the office building. Isn’t the whole point of Christmas to promote gatherings, reunions and accompany them with drink, food and revelry?
Our affectionately named ‘Cagney and Lacey’ seem also to have added to their already enthusiastic Christmas cheer having announced the arrival of a new recruit to their team. It’s understandable that as the occupancy of the building has reached near-full capacity a new pair of hands was much needed. I’m only glad that, in an era where too many companies are cutting corners, the owners of the building have seen fit to accept the expense of an additional member of administrative staff in order to keep the standards of service high. And it is. I don’t know about you but I get really annoyed when I see any evidence of understaffing especially if I’m Christmas shopping. I once had the idea of using a flare gun to attract the attention of a waiter but was gently reminded that there could be some Health and Safety issues with that course of action. Sorry, I digress…, the new girl here is already making a noticeable difference and taking a lot of pressure off the other two with a number of daily tasks. It just seems that all the services offered are being carried out with an extra dollop of efficiency and all three ladies are evidently working very well together.
I suppose that at times like Christmas, as you complete yet another year, you look back and reflect on the year that is coming to an end. Although I work very much on my own I really appreciate the feeling of belonging you get when you walk through reception. The way the year is ending bodes very well for the new year.
May I leave you with a strong recommendation to be patient during your Christmas shopping and do not under any circumstances buy a flare gun but just take a deep breath.
