Birmingham Office Providers Fight the Downturn

Birmingham Serviced Office providers City Spirit (St Paul’s) have proudly announced the election of their Managing Director to join the Business Centre Association (BCA) directors’ board.  Anne Corstorphine, currently in charge of City Spirit’s (St Paul’s) popular serviced office centre at St Pauls, Birmingham, will be sitting on a board of 11 who currently represent the business centre and managed workspace sector in the UK.  Anne has reportedly said: “It is an honour to be elected to the BCA board alongside some of the UK’s largest corporates, and to be given a platform through which to represent the Midlands and support our industry”

City Spirit (St Paul’s) have told Easy Offices that the new appointment comes “as BCA chairman Tom Stokes announces the sector has the scope to boost the UK’s flailing economy as the credit crunch tightens its steely grip.”  And Anne seems to agree that the serviced office market has the power to withstand the credit crunch which is seeing companies increasingly reluctant to commit to longer traditional leases and favouring the flexible terms offered by serviced and managed office providers.

Despite the gloomy conditions in the commercial property market, where reports of increased redundancies across the UK are currently dominating property magazines, Anne believes that the serviced and managed office markets have the capacity to withstand, and controversially even benefit from, the credit crunch which will see an increase in occupants choosing serviced office accommodation because the need for flexibility is currently at the top of the list for so many companies. Anne comments “The current climate means companies are more concerned about committing to long-term agreements….a fully serviced office on a short-term license agreement is a far more favourable option.  It allows businesses to have a fixed cost overhead and be able to grow into larger space, as and when they need it, so they only pay for the space they need now.”

Anne’s optimistic attitude towards the impending recession remains to be tested over the up and coming months but amidst gloomy rumours of a slumping market, a positive spin on the credit crunch is most welcome from the Birmingham providers.
