Serviced Office MD Gives Up Own Office for High Client Demand

The serviced office industry likes to emphasise that “flexibility” is one of its key assets but Julie Calder, managing director of Abbey Business Centres, has had to take the word literally with her own office space.

Demand for accommodation at the company’s 30,000 sq ft business centre on Princes Street, Edinburgh – where Ms Calder is normally based – has been so great recently that she has been forced to make way and vacate her own office and work from home in the Blackhall district of the city.

With business centres catering for both short- and long-stay clients, Julie hopes to return to her normal place of work soon. Indeed, her requirement to move out handily coincided with two events that took her out of Scotland anyway. Earlier this week she was in London to chair the annual conference of the Business Centres Association (of which she is current chairman) and on Thursday of this week she flies to Seville to attend the annual conference of the Spanish equivalent of the BCA.
