Serviced Offices Leatherhead: Companies looking for office space in Leatherhead are being inspired by what must be one of the most unique business centres in the UK, a converted Chapel!

Built in 1902 as a private Victorian Chapel to the Royal School for the Blind, The Chapel has taken on many guises during the past century, including use as a military hospital during the Second World War.

After the war the school became an infirmary for the Chelsea Pensioners until 1956, when it was modernised and re-opened by the school’s patron, The Duchess of Kent, in 1958.  In the late 1990’s the school building and the Chapel were sold to developers. However, because of it’s listed status, the developers were unable to obtain planning permission to convert the Chapel into residential property and it stood empty until it’s current owner, Peter Knight came across it in 1999.

The Chapel was officially de-consecrated before renovations began, which took almost a year to complete.  Every attempt was made to keep as much of the original architecture as possible, whilst meeting the requirements of creating a fully functioning modern office environment.

Many of the original features are still visible. The stain glass windows were restored and the original front door of the Chapel was moved from what is now the back of the building and reconstructed at the front.  The altar area which is now used as a meeting area, houses a large table made from the reclaimed pews, while the organ makes a striking adage to the reception area.

Ken Wyke, who has been responsible for maintenance at The Chapel since it opened as an office in 2001, says: “As one of the longest serving members of the team I have naturally seen many changes. But I still consider it a privilege to work in such a beautiful building. ”

Today, The Chapel is home to a diverse range of small companies. It is a prestigious, yet relaxed working environment where companies can find the inspiration to do great work and can confidently welcome and impress clients.

A truly heavenly place to work, keep an eye out for more information on The Chapel appearing on Easy Offices‘ news site towards the end of this week under our “Unique Business Centre of the Month” section.  In the meantime to read more about the Leatherhead Office Space please CLICK HERE.
